Content and Digital Marketing Student Workers

Everyone at Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College has a story to tell — faculty, staff or students, we all have something about our lives that is interesting and worth sharing. The Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) is seeking student workers to help us find those stories and share them with the world.

Our students report to the assistant and associate directors of communications and marketing and are responsible for a variety of different tasks, including but certainly not limited to helping manage and develop content for the university’s official social media channels, writing news releases and helping us track stories that mention BSU in the media. Our students also help us build graphics for our outdoor message boards and for use on the web.

Students in our office also shoot, edit and produce video content that we use in a variety of different channels, such as the BSU website, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and Facebook. We also plan for our students to occasionally be assigned shoots of classes, presentations and other on-campus events or activities so our office can develop a library of video footage for use in our projects.

**Requirements**:
Students from any major or program on campus are welcome to apply for these positions. There are a few things we look for in our student workers. This isn’t a comprehensive list, and if you don’t fit some of these we can teach you. But this will give you a good idea of what we think you’ll need to be successful in these positions.

* You should have an interest in meeting new people and talking to them about what makes their lives interesting and worth sharing with others.

* You should have an interest in finding ways for the stories we tell to support the communications and marketing goals of the university.

* You should be able to function in an environment that has dozens of projects going at any one time and be able to deliver quality work on deadlines — and sometimes under intense pressure from deadlines.

* You should be comfortable with computers. We don’t expect you to be experts, but we’re a very technology-focused office and will be expecting you to learn a lot of software.

* We would love it if you have an interest in the end-to-end process of producing video content, from gathering footage to delivering a final video. We would prefer you to have some existing skills with video editing; we have an editing station with Adobe Premiere.

* Mostly, we want someone who is willing to learn, someone who will have fun and who will produce professional-quality work for our office.

Does this sound like something you’d want to do? Please contact us, and be prepared to share a resume and a sample of something you’ve written.

You’re going to enjoy working here.
